-----  BACKGROUND INFO  -----

This song began life while I was thinking about a girl I was once in love with. The first verse tumbled out easily. Later that night, I developed a set of chords to accompany the verse. I called it, "Sad Life, Bad Boy". (I felt I needed to title it something!) Over the next day or two, I developed a 2nd verse. At that point, the original chord sequence didn't fit any more - so, I revised the chords. That led to revising the vocal melody, which led to revising the chords yet again. With the increased lyrics, the original title no longer fit - so, I revised the title to become "Forget About Me". I did a recorded copy of the song, but found that the revised melody threw the upper end of the voice outside my range. I tried doing it with the entire melody line lowered to fit my voice, but that didn't sound very good - so, the chord sequence was revised yet again to key-shift it down a minor third. That worked well re. the vocals, but it created a problem for the rhythm banjo chords. It took about a week to come up with a satisfactory arrangement of chord forms that fit the new key and retained the original feel of the sections. Another week passed, while I recorded the song one track at a time. In its most recent, and perhaps final, incarnation (which I've labelled "v5"), this song is basically a smooth jazz piece; mellow, but with an edge. The tracks in this song include:

*) Rhythm Guitar: Tradition SG 6-string electric guitar
*) Rhythm Banjo: Johnson acoustic 5-string, converted to be Tenor 4-string
*) Bass Guitar: Fender JP-90 4-string electric Bass Guitar
*) Effects: "Cry Baby" wah pedal on Bass Guitar
*) Fiddles: Cheap chinese 5-string amplified acoustic Violin,
Old acoustic German Viola, and
Acoustic Cello
*) Percussion: Bass Tabla,
Djembe,
Tambourine Drum, and
Hand-claps
*) Vocals: 3 voice tracks

As dedication, I'll dedicate this to that crazy blonde angel whose brief presence in my life changed everything. Those two years were an eternity of elation & doubt, that left a permanently empty place inside me when it was over. She'll probably never hear this song, but that's beside the point - it's about & for her.

==============================

It's been a sad life, without you.
It was never your fault, how things turned out.
Ooo,... I've been a bad boy, without you.
I hope you've had love.
I hope you've been loved.
I hope your sweet God above has helped you
Forget about me.

It's been a wild ride, without you.
It was never your fault, when I fell down.
Oh,... I was a bad boy, around you.
Thank you, for your love.
You're welcome, my Love.
I pray your sweet God above has helped you
Forget about me.
